India Schools : Sainik School, Balachadi
The school was founded in Medical College campus, Jamnagar on 8th July 1961 and was subsequently shifted to Balachadi in 1965. It was formally inaugurated by the late Prime Minister, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri on 7th March 1965.
The school is located in Balachadi Estate which is 32 kms. from Jamnagar. Balachadi estate was formerly a sea side summer resort belonging to the rulers of Nawanagar. The estate comprises 426 acres of land. The school has a well equipped physics laboratory, a chemistry laboratory, a biology laboratory, a library and a workshop.
The School has a highly qualified staff.
Each section of a class has a strength of not more than 30 to 35 boys.
The school is a member of the All India Public School’s Conference. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. Students are prepared for All India Secondary School Examination and All India Senior School Certificate Examination and the entrance examination to National Defence Academy.
Admissions are granted in Class VI and IX only. The school admits boys between the ages of 10-11 years for Class VI and 13-14 years for Class IX as on 1st July of the year in which admission is sought. However, prescribed age limits are not relaxable. Admissions are made strictly on order of merit for both these classes on the basis of entrance examination held once a year in February. 67% of the seats are reserved for the boys of Gujarat. 15% of the total seats are reserved for Schedule Castes and 71/2% seats for Scheduled Tribes. 25% seats are reserved for children of Service Personnel including ex-servicemen. Written Entrance examinations are held at the following two centres in Gujarat: 1. Ahmadabad, 2. Sainik School, Balachadi
The following scholarships are awarded on the basis of a means-cum-merit test :
- The State Government scholarships.
- Ministry of Defence Scholarships (For ex-service personnel also).
The day starts with morning P.T. and group games. Gymnastics is also taught. The school provides facilities for major games like cricket, football, basketball, hockey, volleyball and athletics.
Extra Curricular Activities
Boys are encouraged to choose one or more hobbies. The scheme provides them the scope for the development of their creative faculties and skill in fine arts and crafts. The boys participate in these activities according to their aptitude.
