India Schools : American Friendship Residential School
The International Friendship Academy was born of the vision to promote international friendship and understanding by bringing together students from different parts of the world. The American Friendship Residential School was founded in 1985 as a first step towards fulfilling this mission. It is the result of encouragement from Indians in the USA for a school providing for their children academic learning of a high standard, and an opportunity to live in India and learn about their homeland, its rich cultural heritage, ethos and values.
The School is set in the serene and sylvan surroundings of Gudibanda, 84 kms. North of Bangalore. The climate is generally dry and temperate throughout the year. The sprawling campus is well planned and consists of an Administrative Block, separate Preparatory School buildings, spacious classrooms, an open air auditorium, large playgrounds, swimming pool and well laid out gardens. Accommodation is provided separately for Prep. and Junior school students in spacious, well lighted and ventilated dormitories. Senior students are housed in a separate hostel having rooms accommodating three or four students in each. The school has its own clinic with a Residential/visiting Medical Officer. The supply stores on campus provide all necessary stationery, toiletries and other items to the students and staff.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi and prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examinations at the end of Standard X. AFRS is a secular residential school for boys with classes from IV to X.
