The Bangalore Military School, formerly known as King George VI Royal Indian Military College and later as King George School, was started in May 1944 to provide education to the sons of Defence Service Personnel to prepare them for a career in the Armed Forces. In September 1952, the school was reorganised as a Residential Public School for boys. The objectives and the scope were enlarged and admissions were thrown open to the sons of Defence Service Officers and the sons of Civilians irrespective of caste, creed or social status.
The school has a total area of 74 acres of land. The school has a hospital and auditorium within the campus. It also caters to a large number of boarders who are divided into 4 houses. Each house has its own dining hall.
The Military School is organized as Residential Public School, with English as the medium of instruction and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
Fees are charged for ten months in the year (July to April).
Admission to this school is strictly on merit. Boys of JCO’s / NCO’s of Indian Army and Air Force are selected by Army Headquarters, New Delhi for 67% of the vacancies. Boys of Serving Officers / Civilians (20% and 13%) are admitted on the basis of an entrance test conducted by this school on 1st and 2nd May every year. Classes are from Class VI to XII.
15% of the non entitled boys ( i.e. sons of Serving Officers and Civilians) in the school are awarded means-cum-merit Scholarships on the basis of common scholarship test conducted by the Army Headquarters. Only boys between the ages of 10 and 13 years on July 1 of the year of test are eligible to take the scholarship.

Winter Vacation December 10 to January 09.
Facilities for football, volleyball, basket-ball, cricket, boxing, athletics, gymnastics and hockey are available in the school. The school also caters for Indoor Games. It provides training in karate too.

The school has an Art Society, Nature Club and Photographic Club.
