The school was founded in 1967 by Poojya Dr. Sharanabasawappa Appa with the intention of making it a public school in the future. In 1970 the school was transformed into a full-fledged residential school. In 1993 the school joined the prestigious fold of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC). And, the Pre-University was started in the same year. Today, it is a co-education, boarding and day school with about 3000 students from montessori to the pre-university level.
The school and hostel are located on 25 acres of land on the Sharanabasaveshwar College campus. The main school building is a three storeyed building with a very spacious open-air auditorium. The main building houses the class-rooms, well-equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology,. There is a huge well-stocked and aesthetically designed library with about 30,000 books on every subject and an excellent reading-room facility. The hostel building with 10 huge dormitories and more than 30 rooms and a huge dining hall, provides board and lodging facilities for 250 students and 60 teachers. The school has a Montessori House, which imparts montessori education in all its essence and purity to more than 200 children in the age group 2 to 6 years. There is a separate three-storeyed building with all the modern amenities for the pre-university classes.
There is a centrally air-conditioned Computer Lab in the main building with 50 computers. Internet facility is also available for the students appearing with multimedia. Online traing is given to students, who appear for competitive exams and CET at the state and national level. Computer education is essential for all the students from first standard. The school has also tied up with I T KIDS, for computer education for students in the age group of 3-16.
The school has introduced Bhartiyavidya, a curriculum-specific, multimedia-based, classroom-centric, computer aided teaching tool in its curriculum for middle and high school students. Computer interfacing technology is also used for teaching different subjects and for conducting physical experiments and tests. The school has got an audio-visual room that boasts of a wide-screen TV, VCR, VCD player, Subject wise CDs, video and audio cassettes.
The school is the first in Karnataka to have a Science Park. The Sharanabasaveshwar Science Park is an innovative and novel concept of teaching science to the young children in the play-way method. The science gadgets here have been designed and installed by the Chennai-based Ankidyne, science park promoters. The gadgets explain various formulae and principles of Physics and General Science. Live models ranging from mini hydroelectric power station to the depiction of Newton’s Third Law of Motion are installed in the park. Students are allowed to operate the twenty models exhibited at the Science Park and conduct experiments on their own.
The school staff consists of 150 teachers selected from all parts of the country on the basis of merit alone. Most of the teachers are post-graduates and some are Ph.D. and M.Phil. degree-holders from Indian and foreign universities.
The students hailing from different religions, linguistic groups and economic strata come together to live amicably and learn to serve humanity in the future in their chosen fields.
The school is recognized by the Government of Karnataka. Students are prepared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Pre-University Certificate (PUC) Board Examinations conducted by the State Board.

There is no special selection procedure for admission to the nursery section. Admissions at this stage are on first come first served basis. For admission to the middle school a simple test of suitability is conducted. For the PUC course an entrance test is conducted.
A number of merit scholarships that have been instituted by the management and also by philanthropists are available to the deserving students. Cash prizes are given to meritorious students at SSLC and PUC levels at the convocation conducted every year.
The school has got a remarkable track record in academics with more than 95% of the SSLC students and 100% of the PUC students passing their final examinations every year. The school also conducts special coaching classes right from PUC I Year to prepare the students for appearing in the national and state-level medical and engineering examinations and IIT-JEE. A large number of students from the school have got medical and engineering seats in reputed institutions all over India. Every year almost 99% of the students get medical and engineering seats in reputed colleges and universities in Karnataka, in other India states, and in foreign countries like the USA.
The school has got a vast playground, excellent courts and other facilities for playing all major sports and games like cricket, hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, badminton, kho-kho, kabbadi and tennikoit, besides indoor games like table tennis and chess. A large number of the students are selected every year to state and national level teams in games and athletics. The school has also got a spacious gymnasium and facilities for training in karate, gymnastics, malkhamb and yoga.
Extra Curricular Activities
The school gives equal importance to co-curricular activities like elocution, debating, recitation, quiz, craft, painting, music, dance and dramatics. Every year many students participate and win prizes in various All India Inter-Public School Competitions held in different parts of the country. The school also organizes many community service activities, besides seminars, exhibitions and workshops. The school has got a Career Counselling Bureau that helps the students opt for a career of their choice.
The school has got NCC Junior Wing (school girls), Junior Division (school boys), Senior Wing (college girls), and Senior Division (college boys). Here the cadets learn about the importance of noble ideals such as secularism, patriotism, discipline and unity in diversity. The school’s 32nd Kar Bn NCC imparts training in defence skills at the group, state and national level camps. The school cadets have won many medals and awards at all levels. All senior cadets have passed ‘B’ certificate and junior cadets have passed ‘A’ certificate.
