India Schools : Sainik School, Imphal
The school was established in 1971. The school is one of the 18 Sainik Schools working under the Sainik Schools Society. The school is a boarding school with no provision for day scholars. The school caters to the need of public school education for the States of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Tripura besides Manipur.
The school has a sprawling campus of about 205 acres situated on Imphal-Pangei Road at a distance of about 8 kms. from Imphal. The main block has about 20 classrooms besides offices, Labs and Library. Dormitory area is divided into four houses of 75 beds each besides a Holding House for Juniors. An elegant mess building and a dining hall is situated in the centre of the dormitory area.
Besides the Principal, the school has two more officers from the active service of the Armed Forces. Headmaster of the rank of Major or equivalent and Registrar of the rank of Major or equivalent are posted to the school. Qualified teachers take care of the teaching and academic training and the Administrative staff assists the organization in helping the school run smoothly.
The school imparts defence oriented education with a view to prepare the boys for entry into National Defence Academy.
After Class XI examination of C.B.S.E. the boys appear for U.P.S.C. Exam for entry into N.D.A. Those who fail to qualify seek admission in engineering, medical colleges etc. after Class XII examination.
Every year in the month of November/ December advertisements for admission are inserted. The boys in the age group of 10 to 11 are admitted in Class VI after a written exam., interview and medical check up. The session commences in July and ends in May.
Liberal scholarships to the extent of 100% are provided by State Governments and Central Government for the boys of economically weaker parents.
Cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, handball, kho-kho, baseball, tennis, badminton, cross country and athletics facilities exist in the school. Indoor games can also be played.
Extra Curricular Activities
There are three Science Clubs, a Literary Club, and Gardening, Music, Dramatics, Arts & Crafts and Photography Clubs function in the school.
