Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer was founded by Mayo College in August 1988.
The school provides an enriched environment for a girl to develop her talents in dance, music, art, writing and communication and train her skills in games and athletics.
This residential school for girls is on the Polo ground on a campus of about 46 acres. Meera, Padmini, Sanyogita and Karunawati are the four boarding houses of the school. There is a big dining hall and a well equipped hospital with a Medical officer and resident nurses. The school store provides the students with books, stationery and basic toiletry.
The school enrolls both Indian and overseas students, however sisters of present students, children of Old Boys and seniority of registration are given preference.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. The council conducts two Public Examinations in March each year one at the end of Standard X for which it awards the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and other at the end of Standard XII for which it awards the Indian School Certificate (ISC). The medium of instruction is English. The subjects taught are English, Hindi, Mathematics, General Science & Hygiene, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History and Civics, Geography, Economics, Commerce, French, German, Sanskrit, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi. At the Class XI and XII level, the school offers a choice of three streams - Science, Humanities and Commerce.
Entrance Test for admission to Mayo College Girls’ School is held every year at various centres in India. It can also be arranged overseas through the Indian Embassy in that country. The test comprises English, Hindi and Mathematics to test the age specified skills in language and mathematics. Only the students who are eligible as per their previous class of study and who are registered for admission are allowed to take this test. The lowest class is 4 and the child passing class 3 preferably from English medium school can take the Entrance Test. Age stipulations are strictly observed. The students are not registered for Class XI. Admission is considered on the basis of the Board’s result of Class X. The cut off percentage for Class XI students (outsiders) are Science : 85% , Commerce : 80% , Humanities : 75%
School year consists of two terms :
Class duration is of 40 minutes each, 7 periods a day, 6 days a week.
- The Spring Term : Mid January to the first week of May
- The Autumn Term : Mid July to the first week of December.
Games and athletics are an integral part of the school curriculum. The campus provides a 400 m. athletics field with a cricket pitch, a swimming pool, seven tennis courts, two basket ball courts, a hockey field, a handball court, a Kho-Kho ground, two volley ball courts, two throwball courts, six badminton courts. The school also offers facilities for riding, squash and indoor games like chess, carom and table tennis.
Extra Curricular Activities
The school encourages hobbies and talents and the girls are involved in a variety of activities ranging from dramatics, debating and quiz competitions to music, dance and craft. The girls are affiliated to a number of societies we have, Intach, Spic Macay, English & Hindi Literary Society, Geography Society, Art and Craft Society, Library Committee, Literacy Programmes, Science Society, Nature Club and Girl Guides. The school also organizes educational tours, camps, treks and midterm trips to take education beyond the classroom.
