India Schools : Mussoorie International School, Mussoorie
The school is in a landscape, hillside campus of some 45 acres, approximately 4 kms from the hill resort of Mussoorie. The school campus has been designed by a team of famous American architects to harmonize with the picturesque environment. Therefore the residential accommodation, academic buildings, sports facilities and administrative area are unique in their design. The three boarding houses cater for 90 girls under the direction of a Housemother assisted by a Housemistress and Nannies. The school hospital carries out regular medical check ups of the girls.
Girl students of all nationalities, varying in age from 5 1/2 to 18 years, reside on campus.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. However, the students are prepared for the Council’s ICSE (Grade X) and ISC (Grade XII) examinations as well as the GCSE (‘O’ level) and (‘A’ level) examinations that are necessary for admission to British, North American and other commonwealth universities. The ICSE and ISC examinations are taken in March. GCE candidates take their exams in June. At the +2 (ISC) level English is a compulsory subject. Students may choose three, four or five selective subjects from a choice of 27 subjects in all academic disciplines.
Resident Pupils :
Registration in July- November is followed by individual admission tests for entry in the next session commencing in March. The results are announced in December- February and successful candidates must complete enrolment procedure immediately.
Non-resident Pupils :
Processing of overseas enquiries take place in April-August. These must be accompanied by two most recent school reports. Enrolment of successful candidates from overseas is completed by September- October. The school admits students to all classes from Grade 1 (5 1/2 years) to Grade XII (17-18 years).
Special staff teach physical education from grade 1 upwards. Games that are popular among students are athletics, basketball, throw ball, hockey, tennis, swimming, roller skating, badminton and table tennis. MIS has an extensive range of sports facilities that include an indoor heated swimming pool, sports field cum athletics track, roller skating rink cum basket ball court, tennis courts and badminton courts.
Extra Curricular Activities
Indian music and dance are taught in time-tabled lessons. Pupils learn Bharatnatayam and various other styles of Indian dance, Indian ballet and Indian drama. Among the hobby activities offered are wood carving, macrame, ballet, drama, computers, batik, debating, fabric painting, soft toy making, Science Club, First Aid, Cookery, Roller Skating, Yoga, Nature Club, etc.
