Common Admission Test (CAT) for IIMs 2010
CAT Stands for Common Admission Test and is considered the toughest Indian entrance examination after the famed AIIMS & IIT test. CAT is organized by the prestigious Indian Institute of Management fore of institutes for admission to their post graduate programs at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Indore, Kozhikode, and Lucknow centers. Post graduate programs in management (Equivalent to MBA)

For Post-Graduate Programmes In Management
The minimum eligibility criterion required by an aspirant to enroll for the test of CAT for all IIMs is a three years graduation degree from a recognized university, or its equivalent course from a university documented by association of Indian universities/ All India council for technical education (AICTE, New Delhi) , as required for the post graduate programs.
However, special eligibility requirements need be adhered to by students for the following IIMs.
IIM Ahmedabad : PGP in Agri-Business Management
Candidates should have, from an institution recognized by the Association of Indian Universities / AICTE:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture Sciences OR
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agriculture-related disciplines OR
- At least a three-year Bachelor's degree in any discipline, and a strong interest in Agriculture, Agro / Food Processing, Rural and Allied Sectors. (Such candidates, with a strong interest in these sectors, must submit a special form available with the PGP-ABM office)
Candidates appearing for the final Bachelor's degree examination or final Master's degree examination can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the program provisionally, only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2010 from the principal / registrar of their college / institute (issued by June 30, 2010) stating that they have appeared for all the examinations (including practices ) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Bachelor's / Master's degree.
Their admission will be confirmed when they submit the mark-sheet and a certificate of having passed the Bachelor's / Master's degree referred to in the certificate issued by the principal / registrar of their college / institute. The deadline for submission of the mark-sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2010. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
IIM Bangalore: PGP in Software Enterprise Management
Candidates must, at the minimum, own a three-year Bachelor's degree in any discipline that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities / All India Council for Technical Education. In addition, candidates need to have a minimum of two years' work experience in the software industry as on June 10, 2010.
Candidates can apply to more than one of the post-graduate programs, viz PGDM, PGDCM and PGDBM.
For a Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Aided Management, a candidate is required to send a crossed demand draft payable in Kolkata for Rs 600 in favor of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta along with a self-addressed envelope of size 10" x 5" between August 2 and November 1, 2010. The application form will be sent to the applicant on receipt of the demand draft. See the CAT Bulletin for further information.
The Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management is a three-year evening program. For this same, an applicant must have,
- A minimum of two years work experience (by May 31, 2010) at an executive / supervisory level after graduation and
- Must be employed in a full time job at the time of admission (details in CAT Bulletin).
IIM Lucknow: PGP in Agri-Business Management
Candidates should have any of the following qualifications obtained from institutions recognized by AIU / AICTE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or allied subjects OR
- A Master's degree in any discipline of Agriculture or allied subjects / Rural Sociology / Economics (with specialization in Agricultural Economics) / Rural Development / Rural Marketing / Co-operatives / Rural Banking OR
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the AIU / AICTE as eligible for post-graduate studies with minimum of two years' experience (as on February 28, 2010) in the field of agriculture, rural development, agro / food processing.
A final year student of graduation or post graduation will be also allowed to join the said program on the condition if they are done with formalities of obtaining their degrees before 30th June, 2010 and produce the certificate at the time of registration.
The CAT scorecard will be mailed to the applicants by 31st December, 2010 and the same shall remain valid for one year from the said date.
Scholarships / Financial Assistance
It is the endeavor of all IIMs that no student be denied opportunity to pursue the post-graduate program in management for want of adequate financial resources. Substantial need-based scholarships are available for students belonging to economically disadvantaged families (Please see the write-up on each IIM in the CAT bulletin for details.)
As per the requirement of the Government of India 15 per cent and 7.5 per cent seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates respectively.
Three per cent of the seats are reserved for Persons With Disability. The three categories of disability are:
- Low-vision / blindness
- Hearing impairment
- Locomotors disability / cerebral palsy.
Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Patna, Pune, Vishakhapatnam.
Note:The IIMs reserve the right to change or cancel any test centre at their prudence.
The CAT Bulletin containing the CAT application form and other information can be obtained at the branches of the State Bank of India. Please note that a candidate needs to buy only one CAT Bulletin irrespective of how many IIMs he / she are applying to.
All candidates must enclose the third copy of the banks / IIMs' pay-in slip with the CAT application form. SC/ST candidates should submit a copy of the SC / ST certificate to the bank / IIM at the time of obtaining the CAT Bulletin.
Please ensure your eligibility to appear in CAT before procuring the CAT Bulletin.

CAT 2010 Forms
The CAT Application forms shall be available in all Axis Bank branches in major cities from September till October for Rs.1400/- (Rs. 650/- for SC/ST candidates).
A candidate only has to buy one form and should not apply multiple times. He can send the completed CAT 2010 form along with required documents to concerned IIM before September 5th or can personally handle the application to the office.
CAT 2010 Date
The dates will be announced later. However, itís being speculated that the famed entrance test will be held in the ensuing month of November like before. Also it is important to make a note of the fact that the CAT will be held for 12 days unlike 1 day.
