CEED Common Entrance Exam for Design

This is an all India exam which is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. The IIT Mumbai is representative of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Govt. of India. This Common Entrance Exam for Design is famously known as CEED. The exam has been conducted with the intention of assessing candidates' visual perception ability, design aptitude, drawing skills and communication skills. CEED exam is held for admission to various postgraduate courses (M.Des.) at the Instrumental Design and Development Center (IIT Delhi), Industrial Design Center (IIT Mumbai), Design Programme (IIT Kanpur) and Center for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bangalore).

Generally, CEED exam is conducted in the month of January February. The candidate who has qualified the CEED exam dos not mean that he/she is eligible to take admission to the programmes mentioned above. On the other hand, CEED qualified candidate is required to fulfill other requirements as well. Theses requirements such as tests and personal interview of the institution where he/she wants to take admission. Thus, CEED qualifying is the first step towards taking admission for the above mentioned programmes.

CEED Eligibility

To appear for the CEED exam the aspirants are required to:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or equivalent
  • Interior Design Professional Diploma of CEPT (5 year Programme)
  • GDArt Professional Programme (5 year)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent in any branch
  • Professional Diploma of NID
  • BFA Professional Course (in Fine Art/Applied Art)

The students who are appearing the final year in programme mentioned above can also apply for CEED. The candidates can appear for the test a number of times. There is no age limit. There are a fixed number of assistantships available to pursue the courses which are based on merit. If the additional candidates are allowed to take admission they are required to finance on their own.

CEED Admission Procedure

The institutes, which come under CEED, will declare the date of the test and interview for the admission to its programmes. There are limited numbers of assistantships made available for the aspirants with valid GATE/CEED score. Reservations as maintained by Govt. of India to be applicable for the candidates who come under the Reservation Category. Aspirants can obtain the application form and brochure, in person or by post, from GATE office, IIT Mumbai, on necessary amount of application fee, which is non-refundable, by Demand Draft in favour of Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, payable at Mumbai.

The aspirants can also get online application form. They are required to download it from the institute website and fill in. the duly filled in application form to be sent along with a non-refundable application fee of a necessary amount by crossed Demand Draft in favour of IIT Mumbai, Payable at Mumbai.
