Radio Jockey
Center for Research in Art of Film and Television (CRAFT) offers a course in Radio Jockey. An RJ must sound pleasant when he/she is heard over the air. The occupation of RJ is exciting when you love music.
An RJ has to link his/her conversation to the music. He/she should have a general knowledge of the music they play. RJs must have sound knowledge of music genre like hip-hop, pop, rock, the blues, etc. The profession of RJ is alluring and lots of fun. However, it involves hard work.
An RJ should possess enough knowledge of history of the songs and musicians to make his/her script interesting. He/she must remember that they are not seen and are talking to unseen listeners. An RJ must listen to other radio such as CNN, BBC, Satellite Radio, etc. With the help of these radio stations, RJ can pick up necessary tips but should remember not to copy anyone. On the contrary, RJ should create his/her own unique style.
An ideal RJ should not be harsh when he/she speaks. On the other hand, their voice must be as natural as breathing. Correct inflection of emotion and voice modulation are most important aspects in the field of radio jockeying. A good RJ can tweak points around, makes guests at ease and develop the situation in a dramatic way. A good RJ should also know that the listeners like to hear something interesting.
Therefore, RJ ought to be eloquent. A good RJ has to use short sentences while talking so that he/she cannot lose breathing. RJ must concentrate on talking about the music he/she is playing. Radio Jockey is the right career option for those who are talkative. However, their conversation should be brilliant.
The duration of the course is three months. It is a part-time course. The classes are conducted on Saturday and Sunday. The timings of each class is one hour a day. There are total 24 theory classes. The faculties for RJ course include Ms Akanksha Kochar, Ms Divya kumar, RJ with AIR. The fees of the course is Rs. 25, 000/-
Admission Procedure
There is personal counseling at CRAFT on first-come-first-serve-basis. Each batch includes maximum of five students. The next session is conducted every alternative month.
Placement
Students are equipped with one-month internship with AIR and subsequently they require qualifying the audition with AIR. If they have passed the test, they will get to work on one programme a week. Students create this way their portfolio. Afterwards, students apply to various private channels. The private channels offer good remuneration to skilled person.
The Indian government has issued license to over five hundred community stations to be starting in the end of 2009. Today, even in small area like Noida has four to five radio stations. Therefore, skilled RJs are in great demand.
