Videography and Photography

Center for Research in Art of Film and Television (CRAFT) offers a course in Videography and Photography. The course incorporates assignments and workshop exercises along with demonstrations and lectures for guidance and content delivery.

The responsibility of a videographer is to compose each frame in a scene to be shot and deciding the camera angles and lighting as per the director’s requirement. A videographer has to interact with the lighting/camera team for a film and television shoot.

The course brings together traditional techniques of filmmaking with the modern digital video and film cinematography. CRAFT equips students with advanced cameras to execute their practical exercises. The latest technology includes Sony DSR-500 DVCam, DXC-30WS camera, Panasonic SDX-900, etc.

The film school conducts lectures, screenings and demonstrations to facilitate students to understand creative possibilities as they develop an eye for aesthetics. Students are given an opportunity to experiment with the creative use of TV lighting for serial, talk show, reality show, etc. Students are taught how to use the built-in menus of a video camera to organize density, shade and contrast whilst using light meters and light equipment to control image quality. Students use filters to produce dramatic scenes on locations as well as in studios.

Students need to spend afternoons and evenings in studio and on location under testing theory, demanding professional conditions and acquiring practical experience in many lighting conditions.

Students are given practical exercises in variety of lighting, mood lighting, source lighting, glamour and stylization. The exercise aims at developing student’s skills required for videography. These exercises give students technical fineness and confidence required to shoot any cinematography assignments for the entertainment industry.

Upon completing the course, students seek employment easily in the film and television industry. The skilled students can get good remuneration for their work. Today, digital photography has made huge pace in the field of hardware as well as software. The emergence of advanced technology has made it easy for a photographer to see the image instantly after a shoot.
