FTII - Film and Television Institute of India
A film institute is a very common term used for the education institute, which dedicates to teaching filmmaking, writing for the movie script, theory, film production and digital media production. Students of any film institute are taught how to use light meters, cameras, and other related equipments effectively. Film institutes are affiliated to university’s art or communication departments. Some film institutes are autonomous.
Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), famously known as FTII, is an autonomous film institution under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The film institute is located in the premises of the former Prabhat Film Company in Pune. FTII by this means inheriting a prosperous legacy in excellence cinema.The institute was established in the year 1960. FTII aims at imparting quality training in film making and television programme production. The Film and Television Institute of India is regarded as a center of excellence in India. It’s also considered as one of the best centers for filmmaking in Asia and Europe as well.
The campus of Film and Television Institute of India covers approximately 21 acres areas of land. It consists of a number of spacious buildings. FTII is a member of International Liaison Center of Schools of Cinema and Television (CILECT). The CILECT is an organization of the world’s leading schools of film and television. Mr. Pankaj Rag is the current director of FTII. The film institute has produced many prominent actors, directors, music composers, etc. Some of the students of FTII have reached at apex in their respective field, for instance, Resul Pookkutty. Resul has won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for the film Slumdog Millionaire. Resul works for Bollywood, Malayalam and Hollywood film industries respectively. The Film and Television Institute offers courses in both, film and television, which are given as follows.

The Television Wing was previously located at the Mandi House, New Delhi. Later on in early seventies the Wing shifted to the Institute campus in order to put together both the trainings in film and television. This is the reason the name of institute is Film and Television Institute. The television wing is predominantly concerned with conducting in-service training to the Doordarshan personnel. FTII is one of the leading and few film institutions in India. Every year a number of students come from across the country for admission to various film and television courses.
