Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab was founded in Patiala in 2006 by the State Legislature by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, Act, 2006. RGNUL is registered with the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, under UGC Act, 1956. The university has got approval of the Bar Council of India for imparting professional legal education in India.
RGNUL offers B.A.LLB. (Hons.) a five-year integrated course which is divided into ten semesters. Each academic year consists of two semesters respectively. The social sciences components of legal studies are:
- Political Science
The above mentioned subjects are taught as social science components of legal studies. The university arranges Power Point Presentation (PPT) which is mandatory for each seminar in the particular subjects. RGNUL has two advanced computer labs with internet connectivity. Since the whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled, students and staff can access internet anywhere in the campus. Students are inspired to have their respective laptops. The law university has its own well equipped Moot Court Hall, Lecture Rooms, Conference Hall, Class Rooms equipped with advanced audio-video aids.
At Present, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law is situated at its headquarters the Mohindra Kothi, one of the inheritances of previous Patiala State. The permanent campus of the university is under construction and covers about 50 acres areas on Patiala-Bhadson Road, approximately 8 kms from the city, Patiala. As the institution is a forthcoming National Law University, imperative attempts are made to evolve a participative learning environment by means of promoting innovative teaching of the international level.
The aim of RGNUL is to provide students with consecrated academic as well as professional environment. The teaching method consists of both extensive and intensive classroom teaching and participating learning too. The students deal with the real life problems and prepare to get logical and analytical expertise. Thus, teaching consists of discussions, lectures, daily seminars, case studies, project works, etc. RGNUL follows the semester system. For the first two years of law programmes, social sciences are taught along with law to initiate students to an interdisciplinary approach to law education.
The university has divided internship into two stages through the advanced and initial internship programmes. The Law University is an autonomous body governed by its own Legislative Council. RGNUL has self-governing administrative system and the faculty has effectual participation in the formulation and implementation of the university guiding principles and policies. The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law boasts that every batch enjoys the energizing environment of the university. As a matter of fact, RGNUL is the best arena for students who wish to carve their future in the realm of legal education.
