SLIET – Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab
Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) is an autonomous institution. The institute has been set up in the memory of late Sant Harchand Singh Longowal in 1991. It is funded by Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) and the Govt. of India. Sant Longowal Institute offers technical education in the field of Technology and Engineering. It provides porgrammes like Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses which are affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar.
The aim of institute is to provide quality education in the field of engineering and technology. The institute offers many courses in various branches of engineering and technology which includes Degree, Diploma, Certificate, M. Tech and Ph.D. levels. There is a provision for Diploma student to enter Degree and Certificate student to Diploma programme. The institute gives admission only through a National Level SLIET Entrance Test (SET).The entrance test has been conducted for admission to Diploma, Certificate, Degree and Postgraduate programme. The test is held in all the major cities across the country.
SLIET Application Form
Aspirants require to pay a necessary amount at the SLIET counter to purchase information brochure and application form. They need to assure that each application must be sent along with a Demand Draft for require application fee drawn in favour of the Director, SLIET, payable at Longowal. Demand Draft must preferably be of Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Central Bank of India, State Bank of India payable at Longowal. The application without fee cannot be taken into consideration. The selection for admission to Diploma, Certificate, Degree and M. Tech. Programmes is firmly depending on merit.
Eligible applicants will get the admit cards after completing application form with necessary fee before the last date of submission. The admit card is mandatory to enter the exam hall. Candidates are requested to check all the details mentioned in the admit card. If admit card is found incomplete in any respect, candidate will not be allowed to appear for the test.
Merit list for direct entry seats
Candidate requires to obtain at least 20% (for SC/ST 15%) marks in aggregate for inclusion in the merit list. There will be a general merit list for admission to diploma, degree and certificate programmes. On the other hand, there will be separate merit list for P. G. Programme. Candidate will be allotted branch as per their merit and choice. Eligible candidate can apply for admission to P. G. Programme. They can do P. G. only in the subject they appeared and not in the subject they did not appear.
Reservation of Seats
The reservation has been divided into three categories. SC, ST, and physically handicapped. Reservation will be followed in only direct entry seats. The seats reserved 15% for Schedule Castes (SC), 15% for Schedule Tribes (ST) and 3% for physically handicapped. The degree of permanent disability is 40% for physically handicapped.
The reservation has been given in all the four programmes. For Certificate programme there is 75% quota for Punjab State and 25 % for other state and U.Ts. In Diploma programme there is 50% quota for Punjab state, 50% quota for other state and U. Ts. There is no reservation quota for Degree and Postgraduate programme.
Candidates who are in NRI category shall get reservation. NRI sponsored candidates will be offered 10% seats. These category candidates’ can take admission to Diploma, Degree and P.G. programmes. However, their admission will be based on the merit of SET-II.
