NUALS - National University of Advanced Legal Studies

National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) is most preferred law school located in Kochi, India. It was previously known as National Institute of Advanced Legal Studies which was founded and managed by Bar Council of Kerala Trust. NUALS is being established to be a national level institute of excellence in higher learning of law in the state of Kerala. The law school was founded by the Government of Kerala by virtue of the Act 27 of 2005.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university is Dr. N.K. Jayakumar and the Chancellor is honorable the Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala. NUALS is well recognized and looks forward to having a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some of the foreign universities. It also has a MoU with the University of France, Paris-X Nanterre with the purpose of having exchange of students, faculty and research output too. Adding together, Albert Ludwig University, Freiburg has taken initiative to have an MoU with NUALS and endows scholarship for NUALS students to study in Germany.

The objective of the institute is to give quality education in the realm of law. The law school initiated the legal education with the intention of providing all the learning needs so its students would meet international standards of legal education. NUALS gives admission to every qualified student to the courses of legal education irrespective of their caste, creed, and religion. The law school gives every opportunity to its students to gain the knowledge in their respective realm of law by means of organizing seminars, debating competitions and so on.

The Bar Council of India has proposed 37 subjects along with 4 practical training courses for a five-year LL.B. programme. Nonetheless, NUALS offers 50 subjects of which nearly one third of them provide ample array of options to the students. Generally, every student will need to write projects on topics on every subject. Students can also be asked to participate in extension activities such as media and law, legal aid services and clinical projects like women and law, environment and law and so forth. As for placements and internship, the University shall envisage it for a period of minimum one month every year. Students will be awarded with B.A. LLB. Degree at the end of successful completion of the 5 year course.

NUALS also has a committee for Campus Recruitment. The responsibility of the committee is to cope with the aspect of placements. Students can get employment at the organizations such as litigation, corporate sector, NGOs, etc. The salary scale is said to be ranged somewhere between 6 to 9 lakhs per annum.
